It's the hottest time of the year for spicy, saucy wings

The way Michael Deary sees it, when you're a football fan, you gotta wing it.

On game days, you can smell the excitement in Deary's Elk Grove, Calif., kitchen as he starts frying up his Buffalo wings early so he'll have a big pile for friends and family to tackle by kickoff.

"I'm a fanatic about them," says the longtime Raiders fan. "My friends come over, and they're like, 'You're cooking wings at 8 in the morning?'"

Wings have found a winning teammate in football -- with wing consumption peaking on Super Bowl weekend. Last year, more than 1 billion wing servings flew into the sunset and into human gullets during the big game weekend, the National Chicken Council reports.

Anti-obesity campaign in Britain goes big

The British government last month outlined a new strategy, including a £75 million, or $145 million, three-year advertising campaign, to try to get Britons to slim down. Almost two-thirds of adults and about a third of children in Britain are overweight or obese, health officials say.

Some people in the advertising industry are calling for the campaign to resemble the recent anti-poverty initiative that went under the name "ONE" in the United States and "Make Poverty History" in other countries. Millions of people bought white wristbands to signal their commitment to the movement. To be effective, advertising executives say, the anti-obesity initiative needs to be similarly broad-based.

"We're saying, if you just run some advertising and then forget about it, it's going to have zero effect," said Hamish Pringle, director general of the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising, which represents British advertising agencies.

Picks Videogames: From Sea to Shining Sea

Since its release more than a year ago, the Nintendo Wii has excelled at selling games based on real-life activities. Rather than focusing on the lives of wizards or outer-space warriors, popular games for the Wii find players cooking, bowling and sprinting, thanks to the Wii's motion-sensing remote. One of its newest titles, Endless Ocean, takes the Wii into fresh territory, allowing players to experience diving without any worries about the bends. And although the deep isn't quite as infinite as the title suggests, there's still plenty to explore.

Mission: Possible

The game follows your character as he or she makes a career as a diver. You answer email for your "missions" -- such as taking photos of different fish or exploring new parts of fictional Manoa Lai Sea. Completing missions adds features such as new equipment, but you're perfectly free to explore the entire sea at your leisure.

Bealls, T-Mobile plan stores in Bluff

Among the expansions and new businesses, I'd like to mention that Real Life Fellowship is opening a campus in the old mini mall next to Funtrackers. When they open it will be the largest church congregation in Flour Bluff. It is a casual dress church with contemporary music. The pastor makes the Bible and it's message come alive and teaches us how to apply God's word to our lives! I would like to invite anyone who is interested to check the church out. The current Corpus campus is located at Staples and Holly Rd. , also in Portland in the movie theater on Sunday mornings, and coming soon to Calallen at the Bay Area Fitness Center!

Ngo doubt about it, this is a race to catch

The festival falls on the full moon day of the 10th month on the lunar calendar. This year, it falls on November 24.

It usually features many other cultural and entertainment activities, chiefly at Khmer pagodas, but the boat races receive top billing.

The races, showcasing the martial spirit of the Khmers, have attracted 50 boats this year, each representing a pagoda or village, and will be held on November 23-24.

"Ten of these boats will be crewed by women," organisers said.

A ngo boat has a curved bow and tail and is managed by 50 or 60 skilful rowers. The trees used for making the boat must be very old, often 24-30m in length.

"As the boat is sacred it must be made in the yard of a pagoda and kept in the pagoda," Lam Reng, head of the Soc Trangs Nationalities Committee, said.

Thanks to A& M and a district attorney, two cadets escape punishment ...

White has someone who handles all his financial stuff, Michel says. (Someone who apparently didn't notice his client's house was extremely overvalued.) White doesn't involve himself in the details.

So maybe it's a watched-pot-never-boils thing. Maybe if Hebert paid no attention to his appraisal, HCAD will secretly come in and lower it.

Or maybe that plan also might have to involve first getting elected mayor.

Do You Know Where You're Going To?

The Brilliant Lecture Series is the brainchild of Scott Brogan, a political consultant who loves to hear great people speak.

Such lectures can be pricey, but Brogan has brought in a slew of big names for cheap prices. Ticket-buyers who want more can buy a VIP package, which features a grip-and-grin photo and book signing by the speaker, whether it's Julie Andrews, former U.N.
