Men: Your Valentine's gift guide

We know you'd rather not have to worry about whether your material token of love will be deemed thoughtful enough or expensive enough or "meaningful" enough to satiate our long-held Valentine's Day expectations.

And, we know that the whole Valentine's Day thing is a consumer-fueled, mass-marketed tradition that has as much to do with love as a lap dance and four strippers at a bachelor party have to do with marriage.

But we can't help it. Just like you guys get all orgasmic at the thought of college football season, we girls get all wistful the moment you hand us a dozen roses and a Hallmark card on Feb. 14.

"Had guys their druthers, there would be no Valentine's Day," says Jordan Burchette, executive editor of Maxim magazine online, which has a Valentine's Day gift guide for its readers.

Partridge Hill Media to Launch Simple Gifts Magazine, a Celebration of ...

Simple Gifts Magazine is the brainchild of Nissa Gadbois and her husband, Brian, who have spent the last sixteen years singe-mindedly pursuing a family-centered lifestyle. There were many publications available that covered crafts, cooking, housekeeping, parenting, home-education, natural health and homesteading. Simple Gifts encompasses all of those, and does it with warmth and grace.

Simple Gifts Magazine offers inspiration for family-centered living. Four issues per year celebrate each season with homemaking, hospitality, gardening, and care of home and homestead. Each issue offers ideas for old-fashioned family activities, travel and discovery. Simple Gifts will also feature families whose family-owned businesses exemplify family-centered living.

Simple Gifts Magazine has developed out of my own weblog, and out of my relationships with other mothers over the last 15 years, says Ms.

Half of Scots see Muslims as 'cultural threat' in wake of terrorist ...

There is nothing wrong with immigration, provided that the people entering this country actually integrate with the native population. The problems arises out of the stupid multi-cultural approach as that gives rise to seperatism, not integration.

There are, of course, a number of immigrants who have no intention of ever integrating, or even becoming involved with everyday life in this country. These people are not welcome, and should go back to where they came from.

Incidentally, the question of religion is irrelevant other than in the case of those immigrants who would try and force their views on the rest of us. It is bad enough when some of our own population try that nonsense.

Warning over new homes carbon plan

The housing industry needs to rethink the whole construction process if the Government is to meet its target for all new homes to be zero-carbon by 2016, a report has said.

According to the National Trust, a study of a housing development on Trust land near Altrincham, Cheshire, showed large scale building could deliver high environmental standards on water and energy consumption.

But the project also revealed there were currently a number of obstacles, ranging from gaps between predicted energy conservation in the design and actual performance to a lack of labour and environmentally sustainable products in the UK.

The National Trust said a strong sense of direction from the Government and wholehearted support from the construction industry was "vital" if the 2016 zero-carbon targets were to be met.

Iran dominates Republican presidential debate in conservative South ...

Fred Thompson, the former Tennessee senator and Law & Order star who is banking all on victory in South Carolina to revive his campaign, said of the Iranian boat crews: "I think one more step and they would have been introduced to those virgins that they're looking forward to seeing." The crowd cheered.

Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, said: "I think an incident like this reminds us that we shouldn't be lulled into some false sense of confidence about Iran."

Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor seeking to become America's first Mormon president, said: "I believe it was a very serious act."

All the candidates sought to invoke Mr Reagan, a conservative hero, to boost their message. Mr Thompson accused Mr Huckabee of betraying the former president's principles of low taxes and hawkish national security policies when Arkansas governor.

IPL auction: how much is too much?

In setting the floor price for spending on a team at $3.3 million, and capping it at $5 million, the IPL has tried to ensure that teams are evenly matched and the big spenders don't walk away with all the goodies.

At one end of the spectrum, people are contemplating whether the $500,000 mark will be breached for an individual player and at the other, it's hard to see just how such numbers are justifiable.

In auction situations, traditionally, an object's value is determined by how badly someone wants it, rather than what it is intrinsically worth. For example, if Vijay Mallya (Bangalore) and Mukesh Ambani (Mumbai) both decide that they simply must have Shane Warne, there's no saying what his price tag could be.

But, and there is already chatter that representatives of different teams are in informal talks about certain players to ensure that the auction doesn't overheat, if companies decide to come together, and stick to what they say, there is no reason why anyone should spend more than the floor price of $3.3 million.
