Swing into Spring’ with new cooking show

Somethings cooking in Paris.

The Taste Of Home Cooking School Swing into Spring takes place Thursday, March 6, at Love Civic Center.

Presented by The Paris News, the event is to include a cooking demonstration, vendor booths and door prizes.

Were really excited about this years cooking school, said Paige Lewis, Paris News ad representative. This year will be better than ever with all-new menus, cooking tips and booths.

Taste of Home experts will offer helpful guidelines for dinnertime convenience, such as:

Keep pantry and refrigerator stocked with must-have items.

Staples such as sugar, brown sugar and all-purpose flour are always good to have on hand.

Keep quick meal fixes like olive oil, dry pasta, jarred pasta sauces and canned vegetable in pantry.

Two soldiers and nine separatist militants were killed today in two separate gun battles near the Pakistan border in Indian Kashmir, an army spokesperson said. Kashmir is the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent.

It was the highest number of people killed in firefights in a single day in the Himalayan region in recent months. "The contacts between soldiers and militants have increased in recent days resulting in fierce encounters," Army spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel AK Mathur said.

The latest gun battles took place in Kupwara district bordering Pakistan, nearly 90km northwest of Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital.

The clashes between Indian troops and Muslim militants have intensified in recent days in the mountainous region as militants come down to the plains due to the onset of bitter cold weather, officials say.

Villanova Gets Hosed by Refs in Final 0.1

No one can claim that Villanova deserved to win this game. But then, no one could really claim that Georgetown deserved to win either. This was a stinker of a game. Tough to watch. Lots of poor shooting. Plenty of fouls to slow the game to a crawl, and lots of poor play in general. Georgetown got the win 55-53.The final call, is the stuff that breeds conspiracy theories. Put this with the block not goaltending call at West Virginia, and it will only convince more people that the Big East refs are trying to help/protect Georgetown for NCAA seeding. Forget the extreme poor shooting by Villanova. Only 4-31 in the second half, a ridiculous stretch where the Wildcats missed 19 straight shots, and after starting 3-8 on 3s didn't make another 3 in the game (0-15). Villanova was able to stay close because they picked up fouls and Georgetown's poor shooting and turnovers.

Can You Dig It? Five Things To Know About The Shaq Deal

Said Kerr: "[O'Neal's] presence is magnetic and that is a big part of it."

2. Mike D'Antoni was the first Suns voter to push for the deal and Kerr was actually the last one to sign off.

This will be recorded as Kerr's first major move since assuming control of the Suns' front office and maybe the biggest trade he'll ever make. He knows he's "on the line" with how it turns out.

"If it works, I'm a genius," Kerr said. "If it doesn't, I'm a moron, I guess."

Maybe that's why Kerr was the hardest to convince.

It was easy to assume that this deal was somewhat forced on D'Antoni; welcoming Shaq could be saying goodbye to a fair bit of the speed and abandon that has defined the Suns since D'Antoni and Nash hooked up for the 2004-05 season.

On the blog now:

Best-selling author and columnist Ann Coulter elaborated to Conservative Political Action Conference participants why she said she would campaign for Democrat Hillary Clinton for president over Republican John McCain.

“She won't want to be the first girl President who loses a war… and she [Hillary] would actually enjoy torture in Guantanamo," Coulter said in a Friday afternoon speech at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington D.C.

The event was held at the CPAC convention hall, but not sponsored by CPAC-- largely because of controversial remarks she made at the convention last year about former North Carolina Senator John Edwards.

Instead, it was organized by Citizens United, Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute, Human Events, Young America's Foundation and Townhall. It was not held in the main ballroom where President Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney spoke earlier in the conference, but in a room nearby.

MAKE YOUR OWN SPICE COMBINATIONS THAT WORK

Want to be adventurous in the kitchen, but have no idea how to pair flavors? We solve that dilemma with the help of Shawn Kantor, chef, Blackberry Ridge Golf Club, Sartell. He shares his guidelines for creating new flavors.
Pair ingredients that dont taste the same (for example, sweet and sour).
Pair flavors that complement each other (for example, lamb, which is a heavier meat, pairs well with cool mint).
Citrus is a good light flavor. Its very versatile. Try it with salmon.
Think outside the box. No one says you cant pair fruity lingonberries with a pork loin roast.
Contrast your textures and colors of ingredients. Its more pleasing to the palate.
